Walk in my shoes

World Mental Health Awareness Day

This week is mental health awareness week. The 10th of October being globally mental awareness day.  Its a week that teaches people understand how to let people with mental illness such as depression, anxiety, bi polar etc. talk about there problems and what they are going through so they don't fell like they are going through it alone or don't feel like they are being judged or looked down on.

This Friday our school got a letter asking to let us wear ''funky'' shoe to raise awareness and bring in two euro to fund raise for mental health awareness. Everyone wore in their different shoes like doc martens, slippers, uggs and other different shoes.

We raise awareness for mental health because if they are left acknowledged mental health problems may cause a lifelong suffering and have a major strain on personal development, work, physical health and everyday living.

1 in 4 young people in Ireland only suffer from mental health issues. Suicide is the second most deadly killer among young people in Ireland between the ages of 18-25 and has one of the most highest rates in the EU between the ages of 14-24.

Walk in my shoes tries to prevent people feeling like they cant talk to any and take unnecessary actions because between 45% and 65% of mental illnesses are treatable.

''You never really understand someone until you consider things from his point of view, Until you climb into there skin and walk around in it''- spoken by Atticus Finch, written by Harper Lee, To Kill a Mockingbird
